Neckpiece # N155

"MARLINGS' SPIKE"

Captain Marlings was a brave and daring pirate, no one could question that.  But he had one very big fault: he was always tying himselt in knots.  Not that this mattered too much, because the crew was so proud of his sinnets and monkey's fists that they forgave the string of nooses that were only for show--although they did make the crew a bit nervous.  Peggy, the one legged cook, got into the spirit and started dying things on the stove, which caused no end of lower distress among his fellow pirates.  Finally, one of the crew gave the captain the spike and thus the term Marlings' Spike was coined (The term "coined" came from all the money everyone made selling Marlings Spike knotwork).  Peggy was given a second pot made of Acapulco Gold, and they all became rich trading their stuff and gave up their roving.

Not that this has the slightest connection to the piece above, although some say it was fashioned by the merry band described.   The fist, indeed, is extra large and the wood beads, as always as when made by Peggy, have a bit of an uneven tie dye effect with their rust/orange/red and green colors.  The striated glass beads would make your head spin if they did, but they don't.  There is the required marlings' spike sinnet work, also dyed by the cook in a rich golden brown.  The overall effect is striking, while being subdued at the same time.  A sliding glass bead adjusts it up to 32" around and the drop and monkey's fist is 3 1/2".

Marlings' Spike lists at $38.50, but you can get a head start if you hurry, and have it for only
$32.00 (for a limited time).
