| Dennis Gilmore, newest member of The Skeleton Crew Pirate Band, and producer, engineer and featured performer on the M & Mc CDs, including "Kings of the Sea," out now, is a multi-talented musician whose musical styles are wide-ranging. But he is probably best known for his traditional Irish music which he sings with his own unique interpretations while perserving the classic Celtic feeling. His albums are now available directly from Dennis, either in person at a performance, or by mail. (Further ordering instructions below right.) It contains an enchanting collection of Dennis' renditions of well-known Celtic music as well as some tunes by Charlie MacGowan. It's a fine way to bring the faire home! Many of us first heard Dennis playing with Charlie MacGowen, veteran traditional performer who recently passed away. Dennis, along with Charlie's son and Bob Brinkman of Modern Bard, have undertaken to search out and preserve the "lost" recordings featuring Charlie. Live performances are ephemeral, and the work of so many veteran performers who sing and play in specialty genres, like fairs and the folk, scene can often be lost to posterity. Charlie's talents can now be heard for generations now that the restorations are complete. Dennis can be found doing his solo act at various Crossroads Productions faires, as well as other venues in the Southern California area. And, of course, look for him when he performs with The Skeleton Crew! Dennis doesn't limit his talent to music. He is a fine wood and metal worker, his most explosive creations being cannons. BIG cannons. Perhaps you have seen (rather, heard!) them percussing at various Renaissance Faires in the Southern California area in the encampment Torc Dubh, or on the History Channel Episode 81. This is one performer who knows how to make a big bang! In his spare time, Dennis works the Graveyard Shift at Disneyland, keeping the Pirates and elephants and tiki gods and other robotic actors up on their programmed blocking. (Animatronics can forget their parts just like humans!) Dennis tells us that some of the figures move--even after they are turned off! That is enough to send Janna running for the front gate! Dennis' next projects include remodeling the interior of his house, creating exciting replicas of historical artifacts of all kinds and making more albums. We're hoping to be part of that last, but most of all we look forward to hearing more of his solo recordings. So order your's now and you'll be in for a real treat! |
