| Neckpiece #N9 is obviously "KNOTICAL" (right), and one of the first Mac created. Its magnificent inch-and-a-half center ball serves as the perfect fulcrum of this three-ball special. Entirely of tarred cord, it is therefore even more authentically "Knotical." (Because of the slight possibility of the tar rubbing off the back of the neck or other such places, Mac has begun to coat over the tar as well as using other stringing materials of late, though we have worn tarred cord for years without problems.) Adusts down from 27" around the neck with a sliding bead. Skuttlebut has it this one was once traded for a hold full of turtles. |
| "CRYSTAL WHITE CAPS" #N246 The sun dances on the water and the very tips of the wavelets look just like ice crystals. This is the Caribbean. And this is a beautiful rendition of that wonder you can wear about your neck! This is one of Mac's favorites--she's always wanted to do an all glass crystal necklace, monkey's fists and all. Click on the picture and read its story. |
| "PIRATE CHIC" Simply marvelous glass beads of black and orange are featured in this design for the fashion-minded marauder. Just the thing to wear in the cozy crow's nest! Sold once for a brace of superlative dueling pistols and two crows, you may take it aloft for $35.00. Its #N144. |

| "PARTY TIME IN TORTUGA" The piratical power and carnivale class radiating from Neckpiece #N57 (above) is a sight to behold when dangling down during a jig or hornpipe. The colors glow in the sun and sparkle in the rays of moonlight. It's sure to catch the eye of a Jack or Mary as you whirl by. Give it a click on the pic and look it over. This piece is really special, if we do say so our selves! |
| "ALAS POOR YORICKS" #N254 To bead or not to bead? may well be the question for PiRATE PRiMiTiVE. When Mac started making these, she had no idea what she and the Captain were sailing into. Another problem was the willingness to sell a given item until she realized that it would be impossible to wear them all! The family tree of the family Yorick, however, insisted it be represented and so 21 of their bone skulls hang from the neck of the bard, above. Wilst thou have a click? Mac o' Beth hopes it will so be! Mac O'McCall wants to keep it. If this really strikes your fancy, email us and we'll talk! |
| THE FYNE PRINT (not to be confused with the Fyne Print on the INDEX page!) IT'S FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED, SO ACT FAST! | BUTCH, THE KARIBBEAN KITTY is one of the first testers of the super-bewhiskered catnip-graced Cat Enchanters. Fortunately, the Captain didn't get a photo of kitty chasing Mac who was helping the pose by holding the Captain's creation. Only Amadeus, of Marooned, had caught one first and clinched the final form of the new product. To help your pirate puss get a paw on his or her new PiRATE PRiMiTiVE PUSS creation, sometimes handcrafted by the Captain Himself, you need only to shove some booty in our direction. Your cat will be happily crazed if you do! Fancy, bewhiskered versions are only $14 for the regular size (2 to 2 1/2 feet full-length ) or $15 for extra-long (3 to 4 feet plus). Specify with or without Catnip. All come with a "noose" at the top for adjustment, or for wearing around the neck (your's, not the kitty's!). Special orders for braided or extra-fancy models are welcome. Most feature red and/or light wood beads (we've been told that cats can only distinguish the color red). If your puss sees the world differently, or you want something special to match his litter box, let us know. All PiRATE PRiMiTiVE PUSSES are made to order. |

| WELCOME TO PiRATE PRiMiTiVE UNIQUE WEARABLE ART WITH A PIRATICAL TOUCH from Mallory & McCall "Crafty ol' Pirates" Perfect for shore or seafaring wear, these hand- crafted neckpieces, belt dangles, lanyards and the like are designed to evoke the golden age of the Caribbean pirates, with a bit of today's theatrical flair. Featuring authentic marlingspike knotwork and sinnet braid as crafted by generations of tall ship sailors, in nautical tarred cord, plus hand-dyed cotton cord, hemp and nylon (from our exclusive supplier in Nyle) the wearer is transported back to another time. We have searched the globe for unusual beads that evoke the early trade-style beads, plus crafted wooden shapes, bone skulls, Oriental beauties with inlaid patterns and artglass that catches the glow of the sun or the late watch deck lanterns, plus all sorts of other intriguing bits of stringable plunder. And most of the pieces feature one or more hand-knotted "Monkey's Fists," tied personally by Mac the Wife.* The Captain and Mac are now creating clay beads with attitude. From Davy Jones to the Tropics, from Bead Heads to nuts, check out this new look! You will note that there are some imperfections in the hand-made materials. This is the authentic "PRiMiTiVE" period touch. Now-a-days some of this might be called BOHO, short for the Bohemian Look. SPECIALTY PIECES In celebration of the magic, wonder and just plain fun of the Caribbean Calypso Carnivale tradition, and Goddess Calypso herself, we are expanding with colorful "carnivale beads" suited for the pirate or goddess who craves fun and adventure. You can find them by clicking on the right. For the rover who seeks to proudly wear his or her piratical signature, what better than SKULLS! Check this page for designs featuring everyone's favorite ghoulish smiley face, hand-made in exotic climes. And check out the other pages, too. Much more has been added including adornments suited to Davy Jones. HOW THE DISPLAY PAGES WORK: On these pages you will find "thumbnail" photos of some of the PiRATE PRiMiTiVE neckpieces, belt dangles and more, over which Mac the Wife has shed blood (well, only occasionally!) and the Captain has kneaded his Silly Putty. New pieces will be added often until Mac's hands are so tarred that feathers stick to them and the Captain has run out of clay. Click on the thumbnail for a larger photo and a detailed description of each piece. Please be patient if the hi-rez photos load slowly on some computers. PLUNDER FOR YOUR PURSE: As we have not set up the more complicated PayPal account, you may click on the PayPal button, give the number(s) of the PP pieces you cannot live without, and fill in the price and shipping. | WHAT! NO FISTS HERE AS WELL? It's true. But an array of unusal skulls and shining artglass beads more than makes up for the lack. This is one of our SKULLS! and PiIRATE PECTORALS collectionS. Unlike most of our origionals, this is strund on wire and moves with a strikingly regal manner. Named, rather unregally, 'HAND DOWN THOSE HEADS," this fancy is number N233. It's on the right. The Monkeys were missing a lot of fun by carting off those fists!! $45.00 |
| TROPICAL NUTS, a monkey's fist, colorful beads--some created in clay by the Captain--all these make up #N208. Lightweight to wear, delightful to hold and Heaven to... er, no. Wrong song! Anyway, click on the picture for more information or see it in person at the No Quarter Given booth at west coast tall ship and pirate events. |
| Neckpiece #N219, "Monkey Go 'Round" (above) Listen! Can't you just hear the music of the monkey band? The banging cymbals, the hooting and the drumming on that termite mound? And five monkey's fists juggling on mylady's cleavage? Or my lord's bulging pectoral? Click on the picture and find out more. It is a merry bargain at only $38.43 (the.43 is for the monkeys, if we can catch 'em). And check out other Pirate Pectoral pieces on our new page |
| "CRIMSON DISCUS" Imagine the fire of duel disks of tomato red glass bracketing a large fist--all accenting your piratical brilliance as captured by PiRATE PRiMiTiVE! This theatrical piece is ours for the sum of 14 pieces of seven, a cannon or $36.00. Cannons offered on payment must be passed by our Skeleton Crew Band member Dennis Cannonball Gilmore. #128 is the code to the PayPal crew. |
| "BLOOD LUST" is red. So red that we safely felt we could pose it in front of a tee-shirt. That turned out to be a bad idea, for the neckpiece felt slighted. Read the whole story and check it's blood brother N245 by clicking on the picture above. It's N244. |
| "THE WILD ROVER" For the pirate who not only sailed the Caribbean but also the Indian and Pacific Oceans, we present the apt souvenir of his or her adventures. Featuring 15 miniature hand-carved Tibetan bone heads and other exotic finds, read more by clicking your trigger finger on #N168 above. Only $38.00 with no powder burns. |
| "O'MALLEY'S MEN" Some pirates of note notched their guns, swords or protrubing body parts when they made a 'kill." But since the great Grace O'Malley wouldn't, except in a dire emergency, have notched a rolling pin-- not being the cookie but the queen of her fleet-- and as she did not be havin' the proper protrubing part, it seems to us that this grand ol' irish pirate lass might well have been hangin' tokens from her PP neckpiece. Click on #N267 above for all the details of this very special piece. It's $69.00 |
| "AZURE CASCADE" (below) is one of the new "Pirate Pectoral" series for your plundering enjoyment. An Egypian pirate Aten-von-Rah, lusted after this piece, but we knew that when you saw it you would want it so we turned down 5 golden rings, 4 faience broaches and a carton of mummified cats. It's yours for $45.00,. #N235 |

| So now Mac found herself at #N200. Should she try and outdo #N100? Not really. It is one of a kind and so should be its sister ship. It should have more balls, she decided to top the other, but that was it. Her exotic bead agent sent her a box of beautiful mosaic milleflore red beads. Those had to go on it! And one of the colors on the beads was just the match for some small blue ones already in her stash. Well, "Knot's Away" and at it she went. This time not trying so much for elegance but a peak at the ancient world. The title, in that vein, was "The Jolly Monkeys." Well, monkeys are ancient, too. Figure it out, we can't. Click for more information. And #N300 can't be far in the future. Any ideas? $69.00 |

| PRESENTING NECKPIECE #300! "Davy Jones' Gift" Actually Mac and the Captain didn't make this one--they were given it by Davy Jones himself. Long in the cave it had been buried. Davy knew where it was, but didn't want to wear it himself as his tenticles kept tangling in the balls. And Calypso yearned for something more in the Carnivale line. So he passed it on to us. "Yea, but there be some hearty out there to wear this treasure," he told us in his watery voice. "Take it, but beware!" The pirate who wears this will wear a bit o' me own power." Phew! Mike Huhn has grapped this one almost immediately after its tour with MOONSTRUCK. Watch out for him, as he will now have the power! |

| ABOUT OUR MATERIALS:
PART OF THE FUN OF CREATING AND WEARING A PiRATE PRiMiTiVE PIECE IS THE WIDE RANGE OF "FOUND" BEADS AND OTHER ELEMENTS THAT EVOKE AN EARLIER TIME, A TIME INHABITED BY ROGUES, ROVERS, SEAFARERS AND CIVILIZATIONS LONG GONE BUT ALIVE IN OUR COMMON IMAGINATION. WE ACQUIRE BONE BEADS FROM CHINA, INDIA AND JAPAN, SOMETIMES THROUGH IMPORTERS. WE DESCRIBE THE VARIOUS INGREDIENTS THAT GO INTO MAKING A SPECIFIC ITEM AS OUR SOURCES DESCRIBE THEM TO US. MOST OF THE SKULLS ARE HAND-CARVED FROM YAK, OX, CAMEL AND CONTENTED COWS--WHATEVER LOCALLY MAY BE TO HAND--ALL OF WHOM DIED A PEACEFUL DEATH TOTALLY UNRELATED TO BEADMAKING. OTHER BONES INCLUDE FISH VERTEBRAE (NO WORD AS TO WHO OR WHAT DID THEM IN). SOME YAK BEADS AND PENDANTS ARE FORMED FROM GROUND UP BONE, WHICH IS EASIER TO WORK INTO DETAILED PATTERNS. THESE ARE HAND FINISHED AND OFTEN HAND CARVED AS WELL. WHEN WE SPEAK OF AMBER OR AMBER-COLORED BEADS, THEY ARE MADE EITHER OF RECONSTITUTED AMBER, A PRODUCT MADE OF SHARDS OF GENUINE AMBER THAT HAVE BEEN MELTED TOGETHER AND REFORMED, OR WHAT IS OFTEN CALLED "HONEY AMBER." TRUE AMBER RESULTS FROM THE FOSSILIZATION OF ANCIENT TREE SAP; HONEY AMBER IS THE PRODUCT OF A SIMILAR PROCESS APPLIED TO HONEY. ALTHOUGH THIS MATERIAL TAKES HUNDREDS OF YEARS TO FORM INSTEAD OF THOUSANDS, AND IS A TINY BIT SOFTER THAN THE GENUINE ARTICLE, IT'S VERY PRETTY. BEESWAX IS ALSO USED TO CREATE THE LOOK OF AMBER. IT MAY OR MAY NOT BE OLD–WE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LOCATE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT IT. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS A FORM OF FAUX AMBER FABRICATED FROM GLASS WHICH IS A LOT HEAVIER BUT LOOKS PRETTY. AMBER MAY BE A MATERIAL THAT THE LEAST IS KNOWN ABOUT AND IS ONE THE MOST DESIRED. EVEN THE SELLERS AT GEM AND BEAD SHOWS ARE OFTEN NOT SURE WHAT IS IN THEIR “AMBER.” WE MAKE NO CLAIMS. "TIBETAN" SILVER IS QUITE SIMILAR TO "GERMAN" SILVER. SOMETIMES EITHER MATERIAL CAN CONTAIN SOME SILVER BUT USUALLY BOTH ARE SILVER-FREE ALLOYS. OLDER TIBETAN SILVER WAS SAID TO CONTAIN LEAD, BUT THE BEADS AVAILABLE TODAY ARE COMPLETELY LEAD FREE. TIBETAN SILVER IS A POPULAR METAL FOR MAKING BEADS SINCE IT KEEPS ITS ANTIQUE SILVER PATINA WITHOUT THE NEED FOR POLISHING. WE LIKE IT BECAUSE IT GLEAMS WITH A MUTED BRILLIANCE THAT GIVES A RICH ACCENT TO OUR PIECES. OCCASIONALLY STERLING SILVER IS PART OF SOME OF OUR BEADS AND WILL BE IDENTIFIED WHEN WE KNOW THAT IS WHAT IT IS. OTHER METALS ARE USED IN THE BEADS AND CLASPS AND WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE MADE OF, EXPECT WE DO RULE OUT SPANISH GOLD! THE GLASS BEADS WE USE COME FROM INDIA, EUROPE, AMERICA AND AFRICA. OFTEN WE FIND BEADS SEPARATED FROM THEIR ORIGINAL, VINTAGE PIECES AND HAVE NO IDEA OF THEIR ORIGINAL SOURCE. MUCH OF THIS IS LIKE THE TRADE BEADS SO POPULAR WITH NATIVES OF THE LANDS VISITED BY EXPLORERS, IMMIGRANTS AND, OF COURSE, PIRATES. THESE WERE ESPECIALLY USEFUL WHEN BUYING SUPPLIES OR EAST COAST ISLANDS. GEMSTONE BEADS, USUALLY IN THE PIECES USING SMALLER ELEMENTS, ARE OFTEN IDENTIFIED. SOME PENDANTS AND FIGURES ARE CARVED GEMSTONES. THE CLAY BEADS AND FIGURES FOUND IN ANY PiRATE PRiMiTiVE ARE ALL ORIGINALS, CREATED BY MALLORY & McCALL FROM POLYMER CLAY, OFTEN WITH OTHER MATERIALS ADDED TO GIVE SPECIAL TEXTURE AND ATTITUDE WOODEN BEADS COME FROM ALL KINDS OF PLACES–USUALLY TREES TO START. OFTEN WE DYE THEM ON THE STOVE AND/OR TREAT THEM WITH LAYERS OF PAINT AND CLEAR COATING. "MAC-MANGLED" BEADS ARE GOUGED AND SINGED, THEN COATED AND WIPED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET AN ANCIENT, ALMOST UNDERWATER LOOK. CORDS: THE MAIN FIBER USED FOR MONKEY FIST KNOTS, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF WHICH IS TIED PERSONALLY BY MAC, IS TARRED NYLON TWIST CORD MADE IN THE U.S.A. SPECIFICALLY FOR SAILORS. IT IS USUALLY LIGHTLY COATED TO HELP PREVENT TAR RUB-OFF. MARINERS' CORD OFTEN LIGHTENS WITH WEAR, GIVING IT AN ATTRACTIVE WELL-USED PATINA. NYLON CORD COMES, OF COURSE, FROM THE NYLE BEAST. COTTON IS UNRAVELED FROM THE MATERIAL USED ON PIRATE'S COTS OR, PERHAPS, FROM THE COTS OF THEIR PRIZES. BOTH CORDS ARE HAND-DYED ON THE STOVE TOP TO CREATE SPECIAL COLORS. WE GATHER OTHER MATERIALS, SUCH AS SHELLS, UNIQUE BEADS AND FINDINGS AND THE LIKE, DURING OUR TRAVELS. WE HAVE NO IDEA FROM WHERE OR WHEN MUCH OF IT CAME, ONLY THAT IT ALL BELONGS WITH PiRATE PRiMiTiVE! CLAIMS MADE FOR THE BEAD CONTENTS ARE BASED ON THE INFORMATION WE GET FROM THE SOURCES. IF SOMETHING IS NOT AS CLAIMED, BLAME THEM! BUT DO TELL US SO THAT WE WILL NOT GIVE OUT FALSE INFORMATION. Mac & Mallory |
