When Jan bought this inter-galactic hunk at auction at a Science Fiction convention in 1973, Tim Kirk was an up-and-coming Science Fiction illustrator, admired by fans worldwide. "Mugg" has hung on our wall ever since, guarding our demesne from marauding aliens and other nastly life forms.
When we set up this site, one of the purposes we had in mind was to include the works of artists, poets and the like, both for the enjoyment of visitors to our site and as an opportunity for creative people to promote their work.
Tim Kirk doesn't need our site for promotion. Subsequent to his creation of Mugg he went on to win five Hugo awards.
A longtime Tolkien afficionado, his college thesis was a series of illustrations for "The Lord of the Rings," published by Ballantine Books as the 1975 Tolkien Calendar.
From there he became an Imagineer for Disney, working on everything from the update of "Peter Pan's Flight" in 1982 to being the primary conecpt designer for "The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror." |
